So this is something that I might wear if I were able to find a babysitter for a Valentine’s Day date night. If Valentine’s Day wasn’t on a Tuesday in the middle of a busy week, that is 🙂
It’s that time of year! Time for season 3 of Handmade Boy’s Boys Can Wear Pink blog tour. Given current events, it seems appropriate to take a few minutes to continue the efforts to break down gender stereotypes for both boys and girls.
I am blessed with two beautiful boys in addition to my girl, so while we have a healthy dose of pink in our house, it’s not overwhelming. Still, when you ask my kids what colors they like (or when they randomly volunteer that information), my oldest will say in no uncertain terms, “I like all colors EXCEPT pink and purple.”
I’m back for the Watcha Wearin’ January tour with yet another Grainline make. What can I say? I love Grainline patterns!
I bought the Lark Tee when it released in 2015 and sewed up a great sparkly grey V-neck that you may recall from here. Then I cut another top, and like the sewing magpie that I am, was promptly distracted by another shiny new project.
Believe it or not, I don’t actually like making cardigans. If that’s the case, you may be wondering, why are you part of a blog tour about cardigans?? Valid question!
Even though I kind of detest making cardigans, I love wearing them, especially in the fall and winter, and because of that, I’ve found myself making quite a few over the years. I’m hot and heavy into preparing for an upcoming trip, so I haven’t had the time (or motivation, let’s face it, it’s hard to get motivated to sew cardigans when it’s 90+ degrees out) to make any cardigans, so instead I’m rounding up a few of my favorites that I’ve made over the years. (Warning: it’s also a tour of Katie’s hairstyles over the last few years — wow, I look different in some of these photos!)
Hello my peeps! I hope everyone had a great summer like I did. It was nice to step back from some commitments for a few months. As you saw, I did a lot of pattern testing over the summer, more than I usually do, which was good to fill some holes in my wardrobe. But with fall just around the corner (my oldest starts school on FRIDAY, and my daughter is only a week away from her first day of kindergarten), I’m getting back to the good ol’ blog.

When they announced this tour, I was intrigued because I’ve been meaning to make some swimsuits for ages, and even have a nice little stash of swim fabric stocked up. It seemed like a good chance to jump on that boat!
But of course you need to actually get to a summer pool or beach party, and I at least like to wear something over my suit while in transit. Enter my new summer love — the Grainline Penny Raglan:
Laundry…ugh. Who wants to do laundry, when it’s just as easy to make something new??
Okay, so I’m mostly kidding. Even though laundry is a real pain, I still do it. But it’s kind of the ongoing joke in the sewing world that if you don’t have any clean clothes, there’s no need to cut into sewing time when you could just make yourself something to wear in the same amount of time. Thus, the Make Laundry tour was born!
A number of us crazy folks accepted the challenge to make a garment in the time it would take us to do a load of laundry, thus obviating the need for laundry that day.
Oy, it’s been a busy month around here! With two birthday parties (hosted by me) this past weekend, blog tours, not to mention my day job, I have felt really overcommitted. But, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate in this tour because it’s always so much fun!
My theme this time around is … Glamping! Confession time — I had to look up glamping when I got this theme to figure out what the heck it even meant! For those like me who are sooo not in the know, glamping is short for “glamorous camping.” Something like enjoying the outdoors and beautiful hikes, etc. while staying in an air conditioned cabin. Yurts and teepees are very popular with the glamping crowd too, I’m learning.
Well, it just seems like I can’t get enough of blog tours lately! When Ti asked me about joining this blog tour highlighting summer capris and shorts, and I realized that I didn’t even need to sew up anything new since I had an unblogged pair of Prefontaine Shorts, I figured what the hey?
So I am here today showing off my fourth version of the Made by Moxie Prefontaine Shorts. I haven’t sewn a lot of shorts patterns, but the fact that I’ve gone back to this one four times now should tell you something. It should tell you that I really like it!

I love that dolmans are a quick instant-gratification type of project. If my pattern is already taped together, I can usually make it from fabric cutting to final hem in less than 2 hours. That makes dolmans a perfect quick-fix project.
